In August 2017, Borrowed & Blue launched the world’s first transactional marketplace for the wedding industry, to streamline the planning process for couples and vendors alike. For couples, B&B makes it easy to discover, communicate with, and book the best local wedding vendors for their wedding, by being their advocate and customizing the planning experience to their needs. For vendors, B&B offers a marketing platform and supporting tools to introduce them to qualified couples, streamline the sales process, and get paid—all 100% free.
Launching the marketplace marked a big, meaningful change in the way Borrowed & Blue does business. Previously, B&B gave display priority to vendors who purchased premium advertising subscriptions. However, the old model just wasn't working for vendors or couples.
Surprisingly, despite the proliferation of wedding websites, couples report that it’s getting harder to plan a wedding—not easier. And, vendors report that they’re tired of the pay-to-play model, which, in the majority of cases, doesn’t deliver the value as promised.
The marketplace model is the right one to address these systemic issues and advance the wedding industry. Essentially, it aligns Borrowed & Blue's interest with both couples and vendors. For vendors, B&B only gets paid when a transaction is completed. For couples, B&B can serve as a true advocate and matchmaker all the way through the booking process—B&B won't see a nickel until a couple has sent a payment to a vendor.
This change allows B&B to take back control of its search results and build an algorithm that introduces couples to a narrowed-down set of ideal vendors in each category.
In the B&B marketplace model, fees are charged only to the couples as a percentage of the transaction. Further, B&B plans to offer extra benefits to couples who pay via B&B in the form of insurance, guarantees, wedding financing, and one-stop concierge services.
